An Information Retrieval Approach for Automatically Constructing Summaries

This paper introduces a method for creating summaries by extracting important sentences from a document using information retrieval techniques. The system identifies sentences that are similar to the document's overall content and uses these sentences to form a concise summary, providing a basic automated summarization technique applicable to various text domains and precursor to text expansion tools by highlighting the significance of text segments.
